StockTracker for Windows
Effective date: May 7, 2026
StockTracker is a portfolio tracking app developed by Northgate Software. This Privacy Policy explains what information the StockTracker Windows desktop app accesses, stores, uses, and shares.
StockTracker is designed around local portfolio files. You do not need to create a StockTracker account to use the Windows app.
Information StockTracker Handles
StockTracker may access, store, or transmit the following information when you use the related features:
- Portfolio information: stock and crypto symbols, share counts, purchase prices, current prices, previous close values, dividend dates, dividend settings, and calculated portfolio values that you enter, save, import, or refresh.
- Portfolio files, imports, and exports: portfolio JSON files you open or save, CSV files you export, and supported brokerage export files such as Schwab positions CSV files that you choose to import.
- Market data provider settings: your selected stock and crypto quote providers and, if a provider requires credentials, API credentials such as Alpaca Markets, CoinMarketCap, or similar provider keys.
- License information: license keys you enter, the buyer email returned by Payhip, activation count information, validation timestamps, and a hashed machine identifier used to tie a license activation to this Windows installation.
- Basic app metrics: launch events, first-launch events, app version, and a hashed machine identifier sent to the StockTracker metrics endpoint.
- Update checks: the app checks a StockTracker-hosted update file to determine whether a newer version is available.
- Android sharing details: temporary local network URLs, bearer tokens, and encrypted credential transfer details used when you choose to share a portfolio or provider credentials with the StockTracker Android companion app.
How StockTracker Uses Information
StockTracker uses this information to provide the app's portfolio features, including:
- opening, saving, importing, and displaying portfolio data on your Windows device;
- calculating totals, daily changes, capital gains, and dividend estimates;
- refreshing market data from the quote providers you select;
- looking up public dividend information when you request dividend lookup features;
- validating paid licenses and enforcing free-mode limits;
- checking whether a newer version of StockTracker is available;
- recording basic launch metrics so the developer can understand app usage by version; and
- sharing a portfolio or provider credentials with your Android companion app when you explicitly start a sharing flow.
Local Storage And Security
Portfolio files are saved where you choose on your Windows device. App settings are stored under the local Windows application data folder. Provider credentials and license activation data are stored locally using Windows Data Protection API encryption scoped to the current Windows user.
Android sharing endpoints run only while sharing is enabled. Portfolio and credential endpoints require bearer-token authorization, and credential transfers are encrypted before being served to the Android app.
No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure. Use StockTracker only on devices and networks you trust, and keep sharing windows open only while importing or syncing.
Retention And Deletion
StockTracker keeps portfolio files, settings, saved provider credentials, and saved license activation information until you remove them or uninstall the app.
You can delete data in these ways:
- Delete portfolio files from the locations where you saved them.
- Use provider settings to clear saved provider credentials.
- Delete StockTracker's local application data folder to remove saved settings, credentials, and license activation data from this Windows user profile.
- Uninstall StockTracker to remove the app, noting that uninstalling may not remove portfolio files you saved outside the app's installation folder.
StockTracker does not create app accounts, so there is no StockTracker account to delete.
Your Choices
- You choose where portfolio files are saved and which brokerage export files are imported.
- You can use quote providers that do not require credentials, or enter credentials for authenticated providers.
- You can clear saved provider credentials at any time in provider settings.
- You can use StockTracker in free mode without activating a paid license, subject to free-mode limits.
- You can leave Android sharing disabled unless you want to transfer data to the Android companion app.
Children's Privacy
StockTracker is not directed to children. StockTracker does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes To This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when StockTracker's features or data practices change. The effective date above will be updated when changes are made.
